Overcoming the Challenges of Hearing Impairment

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are 278 million people with moderate to profound hearing loss in both ears:

- Children with hearing impairment can experience delays in the development of speech, language and cognitive skills.

- In adults, hearing impairment and deafness can make it difficult to obtain and keep employment.

- Hearing impaired children and adults are often socially stigmatized and isolated.

As a Lions we take an active role in developing programs to identify and educate the general public to this probelm. Some of those projects include:

- Hearing impairment awareness campaigns

- Hearing screenings

- Hearing aid recycling program

- Recreational camps for the deaf and hearing impaired

- Projects for the deaf and hearing impaired community

For more information on hearing impairment you can proceed to our contact page and contact the club's hearing officer or contact one of the following agencies that the Lions Clubs support, Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation of New Hampshire, the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, Alexander Graham Bell Association or contact the Lions Club International Health and Children's Services Department.
